I am not an official book critic, although I have participated in several book launches. This will be the place that I house my fave, and not so favorite, books that I read throughout the year. This way, you can always come back and reference what I’m currently reading or what I recommend.
Letters to the Church
This was my first deep dive into the world of Francis Chan. I’ve been intrigued by his outlook on the church, and his theology as he’s traveled the world and been influenced by Christianity worldwide. Much of the book was challenging and good. Key quotables:
On the western church…
By catering our worship to the worshippers and not to the Object of our worship, I fear we have created human-centered churches…We pursue what we want; then we make sure there are no biblical commands we are violating.Francis Chan
God promised that those who give will be most blessed (Acts 20:35). Takers are the most miserable people on earth…The most humble people are typically the happiest.Francis Chan
No one is called to be constantly fed without leading and feeding others. Turn around and look. If there is no one following you, something is wrong with your life…If you can’t find a single person who looks to you as a mentor, something is wrong with you. And social media doesn’t count.Francis Chan
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book. I like his take on things and I like how no nonsense approach and critique of the current state of the American church.
